Position Summary

The Airport Maintenance Staff Member, under the direction of the Airport Manager, supports the safety, operational performance, and maintenance of airport properties, facilities, and vehicles, including minor electrical, mechanical, and plumbing repairs.

Duties and Responsibilities

A. Safety

  • Ensure all work activities are conducted safely and according to standards.
  • Report accidents or incidents promptly and assist in investigations.
  • Identify hazards and participate in risk mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct wildlife management inspections.
  • Take action according to the Wildlife Management Plan.

B. Airside Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily runway and maneuvering surface inspections.
  • Complete required reports and advise NAV CANADA during winter operations.
  • Submit Runway Surface Condition Reports per Transport Canada regulations.
  • Perform snow removal per the Snow Removal and Ice Control Plan.
  • Inspect and maintain lighting, signage, windsocks, pavement, and electrical systems.
  • Cut and maintain grass on airside and secondary runway.
  • Provide escort services for authorized vehicles.
  • Perform aircraft fuel and fluid servicing.
  • Handle fuel quality and inventory control.
  • Provide customer service and reception duties.
  • Supervise and assist contractors as required.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

C. Groundside Responsibilities

  • Operate, inspect, and maintain airport-owned vehicles.
  • Perform grass cutting, snow removal, and landscaping.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain airport buildings and washrooms.
  • Report vandalism and unauthorized incursions.
  • Escort vehicles or individuals off airport property if required.
  • Read utility meters monthly and report readings.

D. General

  • Identify personal development opportunities and recommend training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Airport Manager.

Position Requirements

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). Some weekend work may be required. More than 50% of duties are outdoors.

Required Qualifications

  • Ontario Grade 12 Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent).
  • Valid driver’s license with “DZ” classification (or equivalent).
  • Ability to operate and maintain heavy airport vehicles.
  • Ability to inspect and maintain electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
  • Good oral and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain an Aeronautical Restricted Radio Operator Certificate within 30 days.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Assets

  • Prior airport experience.
  • Aircraft Fuel Handling Training Certificate.
  • Shop training or apprenticeship qualifications.
  • Basic Microsoft Office and computer skills.
